PASEO DEL PRADO

HISTORY:
It owes its name to this illustrious promenade to the currently disappeared Prado de los Jerónimos, a set of solar and and meadows of wild animals that were situated around the famous monastery of San Jerónimo el Real, eastern boundary of the urban area of Madrid.
The paseo del Prado is the oldest historic garden city of Madrid, going from the plaza de Cibeles to plaza del Emperador Carlos V, popularly known as Glorieta de Atocha. This great walk is one of the main focuses of Spanish museums and worldwide.
In it we can find the Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza museum and in its immediate vicinity is the Centre of Art Reina Sofía, the building Villanueva, headquarters of the Museo del Prado, the Real Jardín Botánico and the sets of sculptures of the fountains of Neptuno, Cibeles and Apolo.
